St. James Catholic School has been providing an outstanding faith-based and academically excellent education to the children of Highwood / Highland Park and surrounding areas since 1925.  Year after year St. James students far exceed the national average on the Terra Nova standardized test in both reading and math.  Beginning with our 3 and 4 year preschool program and continuing through the 8th grade, our students are given the necessary skills needed for the rigors of high school, college and beyond.

Through the spiritual development of each child, St. James nurtures a curiosity and desire to know more about our faith.  Each day begins with prayer and each week the school community celebrates mass together.  Special prayer times such as Stations of the Cross, praying the rosary, and May Crowning are part of the religious foundation given to the children throughout the school year.  All children attend a daily religion class and are prepared for the sacraments.  Although we are a Catholic school, children of all faiths are welcomed at St. James.

St. James also offers a variety of extra-curricular activities.  Volleyball and basketball are provided for both boys and girls.  Cheerleading for middle school girls is another option .  For the fine arts student both choir and band are offered and a lunchtime chess club is enjoyed by many.

With its long history and fine standing reputation in the community, St. James School continues to employ the best practices in education today.  Last year, middle school students were challenged with the newly instituted robotics program executed through St. James’s STEM curriculum.  Many students are winners of local essay and math competitions.
