A Message from Mayor Charlie Pecaro:

Dear Neighbors and Friends,

Thank you so very much for giving me this honor of becoming the next Mayor of Highwood.

I would like to begin by thanking my wife, Jessica, and my three children for believing in me and supporting me over these last four months.  A very special thank you to all of our Highwood United supporters and my incredible team, I am so grateful for all of your support!  I always knew that we lived in a great city, but the effort and time that so many people put into my campaign blew away all of my expectations.  While walking door to door it became very evident that our city is full of so many talented and educated individuals with so much to offer our city.  I plan on taking advantage of your talents and encourage you to bring forward new ideas and suggestions

To Mayor Donofrio, thank you for your devoted service to the city of Highwood for the past 4 years.  Your call this morning was very gracious and supportive and I appreciate you congratulating our team.  We both fought hard and I truly believe that we both want what is best for this town.  I look forward to working with you over the next few weeks during this transition process and uniting this town together.

For those of you who didn't vote for me,  I hope to earn your trust and respect in the next few months and I ask for your help with moving this wonderful town forward together!  I meant what I said about the importance of unity.  That will need to start at our council, we need to move on from the election and come together to work as a TEAM.  I'd like to welcome our new council members and I look forward to attacking our cities issues with you.  Congratulations to: 1st Ward Alderman Quintin Sepulveda, 2nd Ward Alderman Larry Harpster, 3rd Ward Alderman Kathy Murphy-Pieri, 4th Ward Alderman Eric Falberg, City Clerk Marcia Burke and Trish Lenzini for Treasurer.

As Highwood's new Mayor, I plan on hitting the ground running.  I invite all of you to attend my first meeting as Mayor on May 5th, 2009.  First and foremost we will attack over crowding, a problem that Highwood has been fighting for a long time.  We will reach out to our neighbors to the North, South and West to see how we can work together to lower some of our costs and increase our services.  We will find the financial means to start a new and updated Comprehensive Plan.  I will be meeting with our commissions, committees, new council members and Department heads to set new city goals.  That is just the start!

Although my family and I will be taking a short vacation in Florida, I will be checking email so please feel free to contact me at this address: cpecaro@comcast.net if you need anything at all.

I look forward to serving you as your Mayor,

Sincerely,

Charlie Pecaro
